Lincolnshire artist Annabel McCourt with her 'MAGA Grabber' installation part of a new exhibition in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire.
Created during Donald Trump's first term, the piece transforms a seaside arcade claw machine into a scathing critique of misogyny and hollow political promises. Inside the machine, knockoff 'Make America Great Again' caps manufactured in China sit tantalisingly just out of reach - a deliberate design that ensures players always lose while being taunted with Trump's recorded brags.
Her exhibition in the town arrives at a poignant moment as Trumps tarriffs may seal the fete of the town's long standing steel works which are under threat of closing.
Alongside ‘MAGA Grabber’ the exhibition brings together several of Annabel's most significant works, each exploring different facets of contemporary political and social issues:
'Electric Fence' - An installation that has toured globally, referencing both Trump's border wall and a Southern US preacher's horrifying suggestion that same-sex couples should be contained behind fences
'THEATRE of War' - An 8-metre sign installation with accompanying memorial bench that questions our role as spectators to global conflicts
The exhibition opens at the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre in Scunthorpe from April 11th until July 5th.
